At over 1,000 years' old, Chand Baori, is the oldest surviving stepwell in Rajasthan and probably India. The architecture of the steps is just mesmerising. I'm so glad I asked the travel agent to include a stop there on the drive from Agra to Jaipur.

I was enjoying a meal in the terrace restaurant of the Mekong Riverview Hotel in Luang Prabang, Laos, as these monks floated by in their long boat. Hopefully, they took it in turns; otherwise the monk at the front is onto a good thing.

I thought a lot about whether to do this. Intrepid do not permit elephant riding on their tours because the care and treatment of the animals cannot be guaranteed. Ruddy unfeeling, having the poor little bear sat there, terrified, not knowing what’s going to happen to it. Makes my blood boil - just do whatever tests need doing (quickly) and get the scared little mite back into its comfort zone, for Goodness’ sake.
